TEAM BGC Origins

Gerald “Big G” Campbell Sr. was a beloved figure in Albany, NY, known for his dedication to family, community service, and leadership. As a civil servant with the Albany City Department of Buildings & Codes, Gerald earned a reputation for his diligence and integrity as a Code Enforcement Agent.

Beyond his professional life, he was a fixture at Washington Park’s basketball courts, where he mentored and connected with people from all walks of life through the game he loved.

On September 19, 2020, Gerald tragically passed away at the age of 60, leaving a profound void in the community. In the midst of this grief, The Campbell family, organized the inaugural Big G Memorial Hoop Day, a week after his death. Over 100 community members gathered to honor Gerald's legacy through basketball, a tribute that has since evolved into the annual Big G Classic Community Weekend.

Since its inception, TEAM BGC has continued to honor Gerald’s legacy, bringing the Albany community together in unity, celebration, and a shared passion for basketball. The events serve as a powerful testament to Gerald’s lasting impact, promoting peace, camaraderie, and the game he loved so dearly
